Canada is facing an escalating car theft crisis. In 2023, vehicle theft insurance claims skyrocketed to over $1.5 billion, marking a 254% increase since 2018. Ontario has been hit the hardest, with theft claims costs surging by 524% between 2018 and 2023.
In the Greater Toronto Area, the situation is dire. In 2024, more than 3,900 vehicles were stolen in Mississauga and Brampton alone, averaging 21 thefts per day. Toronto saw over 12,000 vehicle thefts in 2023, with a car stolen every 40 minutes. Additionally, carjackings in Toronto have risen by 106% compared to the previous year.
These alarming trends have driven up insurance premiums and placed a financial burden on vehicle owners, highlighting the urgent need for proactive safety solutions like StreetBell.
